This coin has some questionable obverse marks. I want to know how a TPG most likely would grade this coin: 1) without the square obv neck ding & 2) with the square ding just as the photo shows

Also, what is this square impression: its source, meaning or other?

The "square" looks like a struck through. John1

Obverse photo is too dark to accurately judge grade. I agree with John1, looks like a struck through.

What's a struck through and does it make the coin a detail coin?
I'll work on the obverse photo to get a lighter version.

It looks like two smaller rectangular marks as opposed to one square mark. Like someone took a flathead screwdriver and hit it a couple of times. I am not sure if this is struck through or not. Is the coin bent, even slightly?
A strike through is when a foreign object gets between the planchet and die during the striking process, causing an impression on the coin of that object. It will not graded details if it is a strike through.

cant really assess this coin properly due to the lighting. strike is consistent for the year but cannot determine surface originality or remaining luster

Agree, pics with more light on the surfaces would help.

To me it looks raised rather than impressed on the coin. As a result, it looks like there is some solder laid on top of the coin. Also see some tooling marks next to the raised areas so I am guessing someone was messing with the coin for some reason.

Quote: ...Is the coin bent, even slightly? When I lay the coin's rev. on a flat surface and push on the obv RI, I do hear a clicking of the coin going down to touch the surface. It is extremely minimal but it is nonetheless bent to some degree. You state that the strike through would not get a details grade but are the two vertical and one horizontal hairline scratches on the cheek obstructive enough to warrant a details grade? So with all this in mind, what would be the grade?

If I were to think of a possible grade, id estimate it at a MS-63ish.

Is the square on top of the surface or indent? John1

Because the coin is bent, that would mean that the mystery square is PMD. The damage is major enough to earn this coin the details grade.
