I happened across this nice little beauty just earlier going through a few nickel rolls. A 1964-D Jefferson nickel. I'm no expert, far from it I'm afraid. But , can someone with experience please rate this nickel. Basing off of the detailed picture off of PCGS I believe I have a decent grade. Looking under the microscope I feel like there is something "off" about it. Not sure if there's tearing or chipping across the whole nickel. Every letter on both side seems to have another layer below it, somewhat cracked through. There is a chip on the bottom of his chin going down the throat. Along with jagged edges in multiple areas. On the reverse Monticello appears to have slight doubling cracked around it. As well as an extra layer below the building. The quality of the building itself appears torn and off throughout and around the edges. And lastly the mint mark appears ragged and repunched. Again, I'm no expert! I could be wrong about all of these things. None the less, the coin is in very good condition . Hardly any dings, scratches, or discoloration. Smooth business strike finish. Please someone with experience rate this for me. PCGS is expensive.

That type of distortion is produced from a late stage die, one that is worn from striking many coins before yours.

Yes struck from a tired die and lightly circulated. I don't see how it's worth more than face value.
