One never knows what will show up in rolls. Among the "BU" rolls I bought yesterday were a couple noted as 1972 on the roll. Well, they weren't BU and even had some other stray dates in there, but the first roll had this in it so all good with me.

Of the many 1972 doubled dies, this is one of the more common. Partly because the die seems to have been used for quite a long time, as VV classified 7 different die stages over 2 different reverses. The coin posted here is a fair bit more desirable, as it is a crisp stage A example, showing detail that gets soft as the die aged.

I just found two more of them in another roll from that collection. But these aren't in as nice of condition and much later die stages. One just went into the bulk "blem" sale bin and the nicer into the regular bulk sale bin.

Nice one! The 1972 DDO's look much better in EDS and this coin is a prime example.

Very nice die state.
Looks like the flexed mussel example:

Rather than the big guns horizontal. Best way to tell the 003 VS 008 dies.
