One never knows what will show up in rolls. Among the "BU" rolls I bought yesterday were a couple noted as 1972 on the roll. Well, they weren't BU and even had some other stray dates in there, but the first roll had this in it so all good with me.
Of the many 1972 doubled dies, this is one of the more common. Partly because the die seems to have been used for quite a long time, as VV classified 7 different die stages over 2 different reverses. The coin posted here is a fair bit more desirable, as it is a crisp stage A example, showing detail that gets soft as the die aged.
