So I picked up the set of 3 special mint wrapped rolls of the coloured, non coloured new 10¢ coins and 1 of the regular 2021 original design. I know I'm going to start seeing these in circulation soon so I'm wondering if most of you open your special mint wrapped rolls or if you save them and try and get a good example from the circulation ones? I personally am tempted to crack them but I wonder if they would be more collectable un opened? Edit: I can probably get my hands on some plastic mint rolls of them from my bank once they are out so take that into account please. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by Wrekkdd 11/10/2021 10:56 am

I would think you paid twice the face value for these. I think the issue number is 40,000. Don't know if that is 40,000 sets or coins or 40,000 for each type? The money you probably have tied up isn't all that much. I'd just sock them away as is. You could always decide later. Or even buy another set and have at it. I think that is a good idea TNG I'll put these away and hope I can find a few plastic wrapped rolls, I imagine the mint roll makes them more collectable as a roll, I'll store them for the next 20+ years

I'd keep your three rolls all closed tight. We can only guess if their value will rise or drop in the future, but opening the rolls will drop their value closer to face value quicker. If you're like me, and only actually need ONE coin of each version, I'd go online ( ebay) or to a coin show (if possible) and pay a premium for the coins you need. Of course, living in Canada gives you a much greater chance of finding what you need in circulation at face price, but who knows if they will be in UNC condition. I recently bought those three dimes myself online, and am waiting for deliver, for $6. Yes, pricey, but I at least WILL have them for my collection.

Ya I have seen them for sale in sets of 3 coins for 4-7$ and a few for $3.50.
I can probably get all 3 eventually in mint plastic rolls from my bank once they get some in. I have been having one of each mint roll to check, since it's face value it's no harm and no loss, but I get to put aside some very nice MS coins from each roll then return them for circulation. My LCS saw I had a plastic roll of the coloured Klondike loonies and offered me 5$ off my purchase for the roll,I let him have it for face value and went back and got another one:) he was happy.

You're missing a roll Wrekkdd. For 2021 there are four different rolls of dimes; Colored commemorative Non-colored commemorative Double date regular issue Single date regular issue

I had a collection of special paper wrapped rolls, including the rarely seen 1996, 2004 and 2011 (bear); the more common 2005, 06 (all), 2007 plus the other usual suspects. Opened them all more than one year ago.
Got a few gems, the rest went to the bank.
No regrets.
But this comes from a collector who shreds certificates and throw away boxes and packaging.

The release I read indicated all 2021 dimes would be dual dated. 6 million of the colored commemortive reverse and 9 million between the classic and non colored commemorative reverses.

Quote: Don't know if that is 40,000 sets or coins or 40,000 for each type? 40,000 coins rolled would only give you 800 rolls. Not enough. Pretty sure it is sets. 40,000 of each roll. That is 2 million of each coin in those wraps. Quote: 6 million of the colored commemortive reverse and 9 million between the classic and non colored commemorative reverses. Split the 9 million in half, 4.5 million each, minus the 2 million in the rolls, and you have 2.5 million hitting circulation. Not many. The coloured will only have 4 million in the wild. They always get scooped up fast, the true "good find" time is not much longer than a couple of weeks I've found. As for the single date dime, they will show up in droves later. 15 million is not enough for the year. Not historically anyways. They may be double dated, we shall see. I just know 15 million is not enough.

So maybe there will be a special gen going in the rolls, mayb some ms65-66 or higher if really lucky. I'll save the rolls in the mint bag they came in. If I can't find some good ones one the wild and don't see any mint wrapped rolls at the bank I might crack them open. Chances are though I'll store these rolls for years. If I can't get some mint wrapped rolls in the next 2 weeks I have a second set of the rolls on hold that I will grab.

I believe the 2021 single date dimes are only in uncirculated sets.

I thought that 2 of the 3 types were not intended for circulation, hence, you won't find 2 of these at the bank in the plastic rolls, no?

All three are circulation coins. I have yet to see any yet but hopefully soon, I think I am going to open my rolls as well.

Some collect coin rolls, some don't. I am not a coin roll collector, even if all of the coins in the roll are mint fresh.
