With the interest in coin collecting over the last 150 years it would not surprise me that even older coins may be found, that have been accidently lost by the collector.
That has already happened to me, but fortunately, the coin was eventually recovered many years later.
Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important that the provenance of any coin found in relevant circumstances is thoroughly investigated.
