3 of them, huh? plan to share any?
A little backstory on this.
I came in touch with a dealer who deals with hundreds of proof sets at a time. He is a bulk minded dealer and pays no attention to variety. We worked out a deal that I can search his stock for varieties. I don't get to keep them, I get a commission on the sales that he makes of said variety. This gives me great experience, a fun hunt, and hopefully a few dollars to show my wife for all the time spent. It is a win-win situation for everyone.
The latest group that I searched produced these 3 quarters.
My hunt has made me think about the divergence of the paths of coins. Meaning- presumably, all coins made from a specific die will begin their travels together. At some point, they will be mixed in with other coins and watered down. But still, some of them will stick together. And even 60 years later you can find 3 coins made by the same die in the same lot together with 97 others made by other dies.
You can find this same idea with paper money. Go to the bank and get a strap of 100 bills. They will be a wild mix, but often there will be 2 or more consecutive bills that must have made a pact to stay together thru thick and thin. Obviously, with circulation money, this is less common than with proof sets, but the buying and selling of proof sets between customers and dealers mirrors the spending of money on a smaller scale.
In summation, if you find a variety in a lot, keep searching, his buddies may be lurking nearby.
