I just got it for my birthday, and am trying to figure out the macro settings for it. The supermacro setting isn't really feasible because there's no flash in that mode, and I don't have a good tripod.
The macro can definitely produce very good pictures, I've gotten some that were quite nice, but I haven't been able to repeat it much. I'm trying to change the distance and angle, to see what works and so on. I know that with my old camera, I had a specific way of holding the camera and distance for the best pictures.
Also, does anyone have suggestions for the flash on silver-coloured coins with this camera?
While I don't have this camera, perhaps I can help? I find flash problematic on macro shots because the camera is so close to the subject. I might try using a desk lamp (I use a halogen). I'd set the white balance to incandescent in this case. A tripod is pretty much a necessity for good macro shots, because you'll be able to use different lighting and aperture settings. But without a tripod, you might be able to set it on self-timer and prop the coin under a good light at the same angle as the camera. Good luck!
