Is the Vermontensium Ryder 8 considered an error coin because of the double 1?

If I'm not mistaken, I think this would be considered a die variety because the 1 here appears to be double punched into the die, most likely by individual digit punches during this time. On the other hand, an error would involve the process of striking the coin. Does that ring true--those who know better?

I hope you get some better input on this coin than mine...I'm very inexperienced with Colonials.
I gotta ask--is this a coin you found in the "secret drawer" of that desk? The desk was full of hidden treasures!

Vermontensium went out of town on the 19th. I am sure he will make a comment when he comes back!

It would be a die variety. I don't know colonials that well but the 1 is definitely doubled in the die. So if this is a Ryder 8, then every Ryder 8 will have the same doubled 1
