Found this 1969D Lincoln Cent in the return bin of my local coin counter machine.

Is this a clipped planchet or just environmental damage?

Sorry the pictures aren't that great.

Thanks!

Yours looks like damage - rather than a clip.

I am not an expert.

The experts should chime in soon - and correct my opinion- if I am incorrect.

Not a clip. It is PMD either accidentally or on purpose.

Hello KeenEye. In reply to your question "Is this environmental damage?"- it definitely is not. Maybe you meant to ask if this is Post Mint Damage, two totally different things. As far as this being a clipped planchet created at the Mint, I am going to say it's not. I say this because of a host of reasons but the one key factor I see in your photos is the curvature of the raised rim of your coin directly below and next to the L in LIBERTY. If this was a true straight clip, from the Mint, I the rim of the coin should cleanly terminate and end as opposed to curve into the field of the coin. In addition, the extra straight "line" you see in your picture protrudes beyond the edge of the coin. This also could not happen with this coin being struck in collar. Just my HO here.
