I have read the books by David Lange, Sol Taylor, Charles Daughtrey and the PCGS website but what say you?

The better question should have been in your best guess when grading an UNC coin , do you grade the obverse and reverse separately then calculate 60/40 for final grade taking into account eye appeal, strike and the market grade? When a ms-66 is allowed one or two minor contact marks and a couple minuscule hairlines is that for each side of the coin or collectively. Still sort of confused. To many ambiguous words like scattered, light, a few.

More generally, I believe that the reverse can only hurt the overall grade.

Say the obverse is an MS65, but the reverse is an MS62. Coin grades MS62.
The obverse is an MS65, but the reverse is an MS67. Coin grades MS65.
