I found a BEAUTIFUL sharp high MS NFLD 1938 cent. However, as you can see from the pictures, it looks like some one tried to clean this with a chemical and now has nasty chemical streaks. Any suggestions?

I cannot tell from your pictures, but quite a few 1940s have a natural woodgrain patina. The one below is in 66RB holder.

It also has some large verdigris spots. Probably why the cleaning agent was applied

You are talking about a 1938 and showing a 1940 .
I am with Bosox on the 1940 . Streaky pattern is often found on
High grade examples . Not sure that pictured coin is cleaned .

Yes, my mistake. It is indeed a 1940. I certainly hope it is natural "wood grain", but it just doesn't look normal to me.

Dip it and find out if it stays (just kidding).

Welcome back to CCF tfred.

Not so sure about your coin being messed with. As bosox mentioned, streaks are common with that year.
