Looks like an S mint mark at the tail of the 9. I do not see any listing for an RPM like this so it has to be a well placed die chip. Sure makes you take a second look!

The clash mark on the 'E' could have caused a die crack there. If a RPMs did happen though we would have seen examples of a RPM listed there on other coins. But probably the beginning of a strong crack.

Nice eye Coop...and this (my friends) is why you should always post obverse and reverse pictures of your coin! I have seen so many posts where the experienced pros here have to ask for pictures of both sides of the coin...

These die cracks and chips are really quite common on 1952 cents. Some come from the tip of the 9 down to the mint mark, others do other even more crazy things. The largest is striking enough to be featured on the homepage of cuds-on-coins.com. The most famous looks like a J after the mint mark and is called the "SJ" cent and holds a small premium.

Obviously a die crack. As was stated before, quite well-known on LCs from 1952.

A few Denver versions of the crack are what is known as "Flying D" (in later die states).
