I'm not really sure about this one, but seems like the coin stuck to the reverse die for at least one extra strike. So either a reverse die cap or just a double struck with second strike broadstruck through unstruck planchet? A little help here please. Weight is 2.50g and diameter is 20.8mm No date Lincoln Memorial cent mint error - reverse die cap

Wow Tbats How thick is this then? I am leaning towards your first idea that this became a reverse die cap with another blank hopping onto the first coin and then getting fused onto the die cap Lincoln, so I wonder if there is some sort of seam?

Well the coin is cupped toward the reverse so can't really get a thickness on it. But at 2.5g it's still just one planchet being struck in odd ways.

I can see Lincoln's bust on the blank side but very faint.

I'd call this a uniface broadstrike, possibly double struck. Whether it functioned as a die cap is unclear, as there's no evidence that a fresh planchet was fed in on top of it after the initial strike.

Hey Mike! But how do you get the properly oriented weak Lincoln bust on the obverse with just one strike? Doesn't it have to be at least double struck?

The faint ghost of Lincoln may indicate that this is a broadstrike that was struck (possibly twice) by an early-stage uniface die cap.

Hmmm. Still trying to wrap around this one. Not sure there is a single answer.

I would describe it, based on the photos, as a broadstruck & obverse late stage die cap strike.
