What would you describe the "S" as? I have inherited some coins and most of them aren't labeled so I am new at this and this doesn't look like a doubled die. I don't think it is trails either. Any help is appreciated!

It looks like a natural flow of metal from Die Deterioration.

Welcome to CCF. Glad you got the answer. With that old a die, you can see the flow of metal out to the rim. Check the rest for cracks or such.
