Located it again today so thought I might get the pros to cast an eye over it. Some detail on the obverse but reverse pretty toasted. It might be a counterfeit; both Britain and the Americas were rife with fake coins in the late 1700s. Many counterfeits were smaller and more lightweight than genuine coins. But I don't think there's enough detail left to tell one way or the other.
