So I have a 2018 quarter that is gold but it looks as if the plating didn't stick and it's half gold half silver now there's black on the coin and I don't know if it's dirt or whatever or how to if I should clean it... Please help

to CCF. Your Quarter has suffered some type of damage during its short life. It could be from environmental conditions, possibly heat from a fire, a metal detecting find, etc..... I assure you it did not leave the mint in this condition. It is also not gold (at least the coin itself). I wouldn't spend the time cleaning it nor would I suggest cleaning any coin at all. Your coin is worth 25 cents and not a mint error just FYI.

So I am really new to this but I am invested I've done alot of reading I've gone through magnifying glasses I've bought books and as I'm looking at these coins I'm noticing on alot slight letters under pressed ones butt if the coins were made were made on old ones I guess to say but is on quite a few of them is that normal

This what a coin looks like that has spent time in the bottom of a coffee cup holder for a while. Coffee is acidic and discolurs the coin, sofa has a similar effect. The coin is chemically stained and altered resulting in a wide range of colour that may never wash off. You can try acetone soak for 24 hours, otherwise there isn't much you can do. We see a lot of these here in the Error section and they are fairly common.
