Looks like someone took a polishing wheel to the circumference of this coin. Wearing down the edge and rim to the copper core.. I won't think it ws acid this time. it is just too smooth and the reverse shows no sign of any acid - either accidental or intentional

Very interesting look on the obverse. I'm good with the acid/polishing post-strike damage. Curious 'tick like' devices around the edge of the obverse field--someone being creative, perhaps.

I agree with PMD, what ever the cause maybe it did not come from mint looking that way.
What does the edge look like? can you post a picture maybe?
