Gambled $10 C on this one many years ago on ebay, listed as a lamination error. Thought about it previously being from a pendant but the king's head would have been upside down. The rim at the missing section is slightly higher than the inner metal so doesn't look like some one cut it out.
Sure circulated for a long time.

I'm not an error guy but it sure looks legit to me it has same rim on opposite ends of the coin epically on the Obverse.
Interesting find hopefully someone with more knowledge chimes in

Look legit to me, possibly a damaged planchette, I remember a topic like this recently in the American section.

The colour of the damaged area kind of throws me off on this one. What's the weight?

I think its a delamination.

If it were a planchet flaw you would expect to see some weakness behind George's head where the metal would not be fully struck

Forgot to think about that, you are correct. If it was a damaged planchette there would definitely be weakness, a lamination issue would make sense.
