I'd say AU-50 or very close to it. A very nice coin. I don't know if it's a large "96" or normal

silverwolf, thank you for your assessment. Would this be just the regular date? Hard for me to tell the difference between the two.

Tough call

It looks mint state, but there may be some wear on the eyebrow and the braid by the ear, in which case I think AU-55 / 58.

There are no varieties for the 1896 nickel as far as I'm aware

Thanks johnnysprawl, coins and Canada website says there's regular date and a large "96" but it doesn't actually show the difference between the two or what to look for.

It's not recognised by any TPG and it isn't on the Saskatoon Coin Club website, a much better reference for varieties and such than C&C

Little too much glare in the reverse photo to grade confidently. Obverse is very nice with a wonderful patina. Thinking AU55.

t360, sellers photo. But coin is halfway to me. I noticed the coin had a nice patina, which attracted me. Also Noticed a scratch on the eye and possibly double A gratia.

But it's hard to tell on a picture if it's a double A or just an effect from the patina around the letters
