What you have here is a Japanese 1 sen, year 12 (the two dashes is a 2, and the + plus next to it means 10, add 2+10=12, so year 12). Both your pictures are upside down . The year 12 refers to our 1937...

This is indeed a Japanese 1 sen coin, but it is dating from 1923 instead of 1937.

The year is 12 of the Taisho era (emperor Yoshihito) and not of the Showa era (emperor Hirohito)
