Haven't been posting every crack and Lam, and not searching enough to find major varieties. So thought I'd post this recent find - 1942 D with a RPM. Mint mark in right location and has matching die groove into the L of Liberty compared to the copper coins, maybe a stage B on variety vista.

Thanks everyone. It's nice to be finding things again. Had a slump where wouldn't find anything in 300 coins.

Try a few bricks without finding anything.

I don't know what you look for or where you live, but I must admit that not finding anything in 300 coins is nothing.

I guess it's relative too, depending on what you consider, finding nothing. One thing I have tried to do, is understand as much as I can about what is out there, clashes, trails, BIE's, spike heads, cracked skulls, errors, transitional varieties, varieties and more. The more you know is out there, the more you will find but I think you know this. I have found myself finding lot's of these things, less interesting over time, I suppose because of their rarity but they do help to break the monotony, when finding little.

I often wonder if the boxes and boxes of US cents I have gone through and have found nothing but the occasional Machine Doubling are coins someone else has already searched? But then I remember finding a split planchet, something not easily overlooked! You're right, it's all relative.

Do not worry Merc. Mid-end April next year I will have my last mitting of my official duty in Hudson, Texas. I have now 31 KG of pre 90 penny which we search only for: 1. split/crack planchet, 2. big off-set, 3. clips, 4. toning, 5. Annealing 6.Ex-foliation (majors) for our studies and evaluations. If you want I will brink you to keep you really on focus work. we talk about 10K cooper coins. All coins are pack in Canadian clear Mylex penny plastic roll of 50, this because we have the machine for packing.

the rest of the balance at the closer of the company I will take with me to my country house to past the time. Hope my request to the Father will be OK and have at least three years more, time to past trough.

Glad to spark some discuss. As a scientist too, I'm interested in what you are doing silviosi. From your post on the 1944 D Lam, if you are working on something that will get published, and are looking for 1942-44 LAMS, I'll set them aside and we can talk.

I'm not searching circulated boxes, but bags of wheat cents. So 300 is all wheats. And that is a long slump for me. Especially if I only get to 25 or 50 to look at in the scope every few nights.
But yes, I'm known to be pretty lucky in many things I do. I seem to be back on the "pay dirt", so I'm happy. Got a 1957 D pre-cud tonight which I might post tomorrow.
