PCGS Holder X/500 Meaning - Coin Community Forum

What exactly does this mean? What lot of 500 is it referring to? Does this add any value? Report this Post to the Staff

You'll often read "buy the coin, not the holder" on this site. I suppose the same could be said for the label. Report this Post to the Staff
Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 12/31/2021 01:58 am It means some dealer sent in a bulk submission of 500 proof Olympic dollars. they paid for a custom label (They probably aren authorized to use the olympic rings) and paid to have them labeled 1 of 500. The number 1 has no special significance as typically on a submission such as this ALL the coins are "1 of however many" So their is absolutely nothing special or important about this coin, just a dealer trying to hopefully get a newbie to bite on a "#1 coin" Report this Post to the Staff

The International Olympic Committee is rather protective of its trademarks, etc. Imagine the fun IOC would have going after PCGS (no mom and pop outfit by-the-way) for infringement. If PCGS didn't have permission to use/display/reproduce the rings, they are at risk. The Olympic rings are the exclusive property of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
