Ty2020b Yes I hit it with acetone. This and every other coin that I show here were
inherited from an aunt around 1970 and they came from a great uncle of hers that came over from Europe in 1840 something. All the coins were in a bank bag together for over 100 years not separated at all. I only started to sort them and put them in disc's and flips when the pandemic gave me a lot of free time. Its a strange mix of coins. I did sell some, mostly repeats of coins I have but not the best ones. There were about 75 each of the 1891
Seated dime and the 1883
Liberty nickel. The oldest coins are in the 1700's, mostly Foreign with only 1 American which is a Massachusetts coin. Lot of early 1800 American coins though. He was a seaman so there are a lot of foreign coins, and some I think he must have got in Europe before he left for America. Not only coins but confederate paper and bonds also were not really protected until I ordered archive envelopes for them. He also saved a lot of completely worn-out
Shield nickels, and
Seated Liberty quarters, guess he thought silver was going up! He was 175 years ahead of time!
