Does anyone have the Royal Australian Mint Blue Folder? I bought this years ago and stored all my valuable coins in it, and now I am unsure if it is appropriate, perhaps the sleeves it came with have PVC etc, does anyone know?

I quit collecting in 2014 but I am starting again. I was going to buy the same folder but I can't find it online and also now I am worried it's unsafe for my coins. Lol.

It has PVC covers but you can still replace the album pages with archival quality polypropylene or Mylar album pages.

I have similar album covers (non RAM), also PVC, but the pages inside are all archival quality non PVC. Coins inside the 2x2's after 20 years are still all perfectly OK.

Hi australian2014 and

Are you able to post a photo showing what the sleeves that came in your coin folder look like?

Only vaguely remember the RAM folders so I'm no help.

Thanks everyone.

I have attached more photos here. As you can see, when I take out the coins, a stain is left behind which I am unsure is normal? My uncirculated 1986 $1 also looks like it's lost a bit of shine.

I got these sleeves with the folder, and I would have assumed RAM would have sold with appropriate sleeves ): Lol.

Pages pictured appear to be made of soft plasticized PVC.
Over time, the plasticizer gasses out and can harm coins, especially copper and bronze coins with luster.

I replaced the PVC pages with Mylar or polypropylene as mentioned in the previous post. They don't cost much more to buy per page.

I still use the old PVC pages, but only for coins that are valued at less than a couple of dollars each, such as current coins found in circulation, like common Australian commemorative coins, of which I have an almost complete type set in all denominations, dating from 1966.

That part of my collection is still very active, with coins taken out of circulation from pocket change.
