I'm thinking post-strike damage--not a mint error. Others will be along to weigh-in.

Just a deep scratches which have damaged the coin. It's a spender.

Ok I'm still going to put up tell I can finde a better can in hand I see little specs of metal embedded into the scratches on some of them not saying I doubt you guys but I had a 1982 quarter that the pictures made you guys miss clash marks on the rim I was told it was a normal quarter not your guys's fault it's mine for the pictures I supply you guys with and how deep can you scratch a quarter before the copper layer shows on the right wing I can see three little balls at the end of a scratch and then a whole bunch of little tiny ones down the scratch hard to capture on the camera

Photos can change the reality. Me I will not say scratches. Seem this coin was HIT. From the point of view of the Mint line of production nothing could produce those irregular hits, mean PMD. On the term embedded, which mean incorporate in, an SEM-EDX test will tell you, but it is not worth the cost of. My opinion.

Shouldn't really matter what the cause, it could not happen during the
striking of the coin so it is some sort of PMD. Damage is damage.

with JimmyD, damage is damage however it happened. Seems you don't like our diagnoses, but we see a lot, I mean hundreds of coins here in the errors section and this is without a doubt post mint damage, not a mint error. Not every coin is a error coin, sorry. You asked and we're being straight with you, this is PMD.
