I am hoping someone might have seen one similar and can help make out what it says. I know the pics aren't the best but it looks (to me) like RES maybe? And there might also be other designs or shapes on the neck and cheek.

What I am seeing here is a combination of circulation hits and a little bit of possible lamination peeling at the neck/cheek juncture and a bit of what we call paridolia, where we read into something that is actually not there. The bottom arrow in your third picture is pointing to the ribbon that would show a series of diamonds in higher grade coins, not letters. Gradewise it looks like a F-12.

I see what you are talking about there @syb, but I agree that this seems like random circulation damage more than a countermark.
