Hello everyone.

I have inherited a bunch of old British coins and there is an Australian florin amongst them. I have shown a photo to a few "coin experts" in the uk and one offered me £200 for it.

Like everyone who inherits something I have been Googling and can see that some places value them upwards of £1000 depending on condition.

Now I know no one is willing to pay that kind of money unless it is in amazing condition but I just wanted to know A) if anyone has any idea what they believe the condition is or B) if anyone knows anywhere in the UK I could take it to get looked at.

I don't really want to sell it but I'd like to make sure I am storing it in the best condition to preserve it.

Many thanks

The detail on the high points of the emu's feathers suggest this coin has an exceptionally high grade

It should be taken to one of the main dealers in the UK.
Although the detail of the image appears to be sharp, the image on my screen also looks to be somewhat 'pasty'. For this reason, authentication needs to be confirmed, to enable an accurate valuation.

500,000 'H' below date florins were minted in Birmingham, at the Heaton Mint. It is probable that this coin was retained by the Mint as a specimen, and never left the shores of the UK, as did all of it's ilk for circulation in sunny Australia, where almost all of them sustained heavy wear.

Thank you for your help and knowledge. I really appreciate it. I knew it was a very good condition coin. I will have to look up some good coin dealers and get it looked at.

Many thanks

Value depends a lot on whether or not its cleaned/polished.
It might just be the pic but it looks like its had a polish or something.
But storage wise a mylar holder is the best way.

I would VF or better - no lustre on it seems strange.

Generally impressed, but a small part of me suggests it may not be the full quid.
