I would like to purchase a scale (for the 82 cents), and a magnifier. Any suggestions on what and where to buy, they're are a million online. I have thousands of cents I would like to look at, I can see things like the double ear, close and Wide AM's, but having a hard time with the double dies, dates, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rip48

Perfect timing on the scale. I was looking to pick one up today after work. Hopefully someone has recommendations from a local target/office max type store :0 I need one too for weighing coins and also packages for ebay :)

Personally, I would go the extra step and locate a pocket jeweler's scale with a 0.01g accuracy. There is a generic brand out there that works quite well, and is sold at jeweler's supply (also a better source for loupes than coin retailers). In this article, I've shown a picture of mine as a visual reference. It's produced in China under various "brands names", and can be found for about $30. Good luck!

You don't need a scale for weighing '82 cents. You can just drop them on a table. The zincs and coppers sound different. You need to do a few of them to get the sound right. You can also make a scale with a Popsicle stick and a pencil. Place two known coppers on each end of the stick. get them to balance. Put scotch tape on the stick to hold it to the pencil in place. Put tape on one copper to hold it in place. Then place the subject cents on the other end of the stick. There is a dramatic difference. You won't have any problem deciding which are which. (Most are copper).

I recently bought a 10x magnifier on ebay for about six dollars. It is very good. You can find them available at any time. Or go to a coin show. You can buy loups and magnifying glasses there.

What is the difference between a magnifying glass and a loupe? Is one preferable to the other?

Looks like the Proscale 111 at $22 is a good deal. 111 gram capacity and .01 gram resolution. Or 3.920 oz at .001 oz. Or 1713 grains at 1 grain resolution. Small enough to fit in your shirt pocket.
