I need a sanity check. There's an ebay auction 320332452582 that I've been watching/bidding. The roll is "unchecked" with a 1909 Indian obverse and a Wheat VBB reverse showing. Certainly there is the possibility that the Lincoln is a 1909 S VDB, and that would push the roll into the stratosphere. However, it might be a plain 1909 VDB worth a fraction of the S VDB. I dropped out at $80 for the roll. Frankly, I think it was auction fever that caused me to go that high. Do you folks think I dropped out too soon? Would any of you have chased it farther? If, what would have been your max?

You'll be happy you got out when you did. Don't throw your money away on junk like this.

my max would have been 0$. I do buy "unsearched rolls" on e-bay, and sometimes get auction fever. But if you look at this guys feedback, almost all of his rolls are 09 vdb both ends. It is almost beyond the laws of probability. I would have stayed away from this one.

Wow...thanks! I only looked at his percentage of positive feedback. At 99.4% positive I think think to look at the negative text. Thanks for the sanity check! I guess I need to look at everything before I bid. Thanks again!

Obviously a seeded roll, you can tell it's been opened and resealed.

BadThad, it wasn't that obvious to me! I could see that he'd pulled down the paper to show the VDB, but I couldn't "see" anything else obvious. Tell me what you saw so that I know what to look for in the future.

I remember as a little kid, when I get these shotgun rolls I would open them and close them up as neatly as I can. I didn't want to mess it up when my mom would use the rolls for business. Now that I think about it, there was no point :P

Anyways, there are tools to make these just like the machines. Good thing you found about the truth to these so called "unsearched" and rewrapped coins. Hopefully the others will find out soon enough.
Rest in Peace

What a coincidence that both a VDB and a 1909 Indian were on theends of the roll. I might have gone for the roll just for those two coins which, even at VG, wholesale for $25 or so. Add another 48 x 2 = 96c for the rest of the roll being wheaties and you have about $26. $80 or more is insanity.

Just checked (3:13 PM EST) The roll is $114 - MADNESS. The seller has only 4 negative feedbacks for the last 12 months. Actually not bad for the roll sellers.

Again, thanks for the sage advice. I kept thinking I was missing a 1909 S VDB yet something told me that it was just a trick. Even if it was an unexamined roll on the interior, he'd pried the roll open enough to see the VDB. If it was me, I'd have to see what the obverse was!

Exactly, the ends look different and there's almost no way a randomly wrapped roll is going to have those two coins on the ends.

Yeah, stay away from that guy. He's bad news! It's guys like him that spoil our hobby for many people when they get burned by an obvious scam. There's nothing wrong with buying rolls or anything else on ebay, just make sure you check feedback as well. And if it's too good to be true......it probably is.

Be glad you didn't get this one , crazy. 220315670493 Theres one guy selling rolls like this to. If you check on his purchases he has made. He's buying VDB's like crazy. I always check to what else the seller is selling. If their selling single wheats with nice dates , I stay away.
