Can anyone please help me determine what this is on top of Lincoln's head on this 68 penny. To me it almost looks like an o or a D but I'm not sure. TIA . I'm also enjoying my new hubby fr.

We you here, this is a great place to learn about coins! It looks like a little like lead solder on a normal looking cent.

Something called PMD or post mint damaged.

It looks like it has been punched with something displacing the metal.
Whatever happened to it , it is PMD.
