So had to leave for work but snapped a cpl pics before I left

I cropped my pic down to, according to free image optimizer, 238 or thereabouts, but when I try and upload it says too large?

Yea I didn't figure any type of restoration was a possibility, just trying to see if I have something other than a '43! For my own satisfaction

One of the worst I've seen. Could be a fun curiosity--maybe.

Dang, just threw it in some vinegar when I got home a bit ago, after reading everyone's comments, and u can definitely make out that it's a 44 now! Double ear'd roadkill or not, I think it's pretty cool

Sorry, but the probability that it was a 1944 is infinitesimally small.

Let's apply Occam's Razor. Either your coin is:
- A super-rare 1944 steel coin that just happens to have also become so badly corroded that you can barely tell it used to be a coin, or...
- A perfectly normal 1943 that corroded badly, and the corrosion crater left behind above the last digit in the date just happens to form a shape that you think looks like a "4".

Which of these possibilities is more probable? Clearly, the second one.

Rust is a highly active form of corrosion: it damages the surfaces irrecoverably. Adding acid to a rusty steel coin will not "bring out the details hidden under the rust", because there are no surviving details under rust that thick. What acid will do is to create entire new "details".
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

The only thing I can tell is that it's a wheat. Worth it's weight as a slug.

That may very well the case, just telling you what I "thought" I saw! Agreed, it's in pitiful shape, but while it was sitting in vinegar, I hit it with the flashlight, at an angle, I could see all 4 numbers and was fairly certain those last two digits were the same. Could I see two clear outlines of 4's...no, but the last 2 digits were the same. Been trying to get a good pic for an hr, gotta go to bed! Here's best I got
