It has been awhile since I last visited the Community. Way back in 2018! I hope that everyone has been able to stay safe and well. During the pandemic, I was able to add several new ancients to my small collection. So I thought I would share them with you all.

Very nice !

I've been wanting something historical like those and/or a shipwreck recovery. I would prefer raw but know I've got to vet the legitimacy of the seller and item.

Welcome back @circus. Looks like mostly Roman with one or two Greek ones--well done. Which one is your favorite?

Wait are those your additions or collection? If so, that's a lot of nice pick ups. Also, nice high quality photo. I really have to upgrade to a good camera.

Thanks, southsav! Life circumstances have ofttimes forced my hand to sell off large portions of my collection, but I've been able to slowly rebuild. Focusing primarily on the larger specimens of Roman coin, because (as an artist) I am attracted to the portraiture. It took a very long time for me to find a portrait of Claudius that I found appealing. To answer your question, travelcoin: What you see there is my entire collection. Although the great majority of the coins pictured are recent acquisitions (within the last two years). My favorite, Spence, is the large sestertius of a youthful Hadrian. I purchased it some twenty years ago, and rarely see that type offered for sale. The Galba was the culmination of a decades-long hunt for a good specimen at a decent price. The two Greek coins: couldn't resist Mithradates VI. One of the Roman Republic's greatest foes! The large Hieron II represents my familial connection to Sicily, and again...a foe of Roman expansion (until finally forced to see things more...pragmatically).

Thank you, jbuck. It is good to be back. Despite my absence, this Community has frequently crossed my mind. It is a friendly and valued place! While I have the chance, I will turn Spence's question on y'all: Of the coins pictured above...which is YOUR favorite?

This is a better look at the Nerva orichalcum dupondius from the collection. It is a fine example of the type of coin that speaks to me. The portrait is very strong, with subtle realistic nuances (brow, cheek, and mouth). The patina is interesting, and the passage of the centuries is clearly evident. Even the vicious crack speaks volumes. A symbol of the way this Emperor was suddenly stricken. His life and reign cut short by a stroke. The skill of the unnamed artist that cut the die is simply incredible!
