I came across both of these at a gas Station sitting in the take a penny leave a penny cup. I took them and left a quarter. When I got to looking at them they appeared to have errors.(I'm relatively new to collecting so idk) The coin on the left has visible cracks all over it. The one on the right has a strange looking "fuzzy" texture to it. It also has several lines running next to the feather on the front and the words "states of America" on the back I can only describe as looking melted. Looked online but can't find anything similar to the one on the right. Anyone know if these are mint errors and what the brownish-red stuff is on both coins?

Hello and

They just look very worn to me and suffering from environmental damage. Maybe someone found them with a metal detector, cleaned them up to remove some of the surface gunk and then put them back into circulation. Still, it's fun to find Buffalo nickels in the wild. (I actually spent one in Puerto Rico in December and another in Orlando in January but mine weren't quite as far gone as these!)

Thanks for the clarification on those. I'll remember to keep it at one coin from now on.
