So all but 2 of my foreign coins came from my papaw, probably brought back from his service in the navy, during Korean War. My paw in law gave me an 1858 Cuba peso and this German pfennig from 1891. I was thinking this pfennig would have some value, but is it really only worth a dollar or two?

Being old doesn't make it valuable. There are Roman coins that are only worth a couple of dollars.

We would have to see the reverse to see the mintmark, and here, there are mintmarks worth sometimes much more than just a few dollars.

Yes, there are two mm. Here is an "A" that sold for 99 cents. It seems the "F" mm is a little more valuable 125032839521

Well I noticed, when looking up a different pfennig, F MM was an option all to itself, then they A,B,C & D MM's grouped together. So I'm assuming the values of A-D must be similar to one another?

Sorta, (I just got back home from work ) these two pics of the Krause catalog should help so I don't have to type all of this . These are the mintmarks... The A is equivalent to our Philadelphia, and the German H mint is like our Carson City Nevada mint... Next pic is of the location of where your 10 pfennig is at. Indeed, mintmarks mean everything in value.

Krause catalog gives a good indication of the relative value of the different date/mint combinations of German empire coins. As pointed out by other, certain date/mmint combinations are scarce and collectible even in average circulated grades I have sold a fair number of these (my father-in-law had a bag of a hjundred or so from his service in WWII), and you can always determine the current market value by looking at recent ebay sales. Almost all the Berlin issues are common.
