So I found this 1889 Indian Head penny, along with about 20 more, in a bag of wheat pennies given to me by the in laws. This was the oldest but has this piece missing. I'm assuming this happened after the minting process, but I don't know much, if any, when it comes to that!

Yes that seems right to me too. Still a nice gift from the in-laws though.

Right! I can attribute this new coin collecting virus that I've caught (they have a mask for that?) To my paw in law! He's given me and my wife a lot of nice coins! Also the one that gave me the 3 incomplete albums!

So when I'm researching Indian heads, I read about reds and browns. After looking at some of these, some shine a lil brighter, others more brown. I realize this may be a stupid question, but I'm assuming, the browning happens from just being in circulation and exposed to environmental conditions? An uncirculated coin wouldn't have any brown?
