Can anyone help with verification or authentication of this coin? I know that it is a tetradrachm from the Islands of Thrace from some period BC. It shows Dionysos with an ivy head dress on the inverse side and a naked herakles holding a club and a lion skin on the reverse. One thing to be noticed from the pictures is that it has a slightly golden or gilded colour but the high spots show the silver. It is approximately 34mm diameter and weighs 15.83 grams. I think that it may be from Thasos. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm not liking the colour, it shouldn't be golden like that.
I'm also not liking the mis-spelling of "ThASIWN" as "ThLSWN", and the otherwise generally sloppy rendering of the lettering.
Finally, it has what I call the "Bulgarian mouth". The mouth area simply wasn't done that way by the ancient Greeks, but is often seen like this on "Bulgarian School" copies of ancient coins.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
I can't see a seam but I've taken photos of the edges from each angle to show a better view. However, bearing in mind the above comments am I to assume that this is a 'Bulgarian School' copy and is therefore valueless?
