I came across this 2006 penny and it looks like it is damaged, but after looking closer, it seems to have some reeding in the damaged areas. Please let me know what causes this. And thanks in advance for being patient with a newbie :)

Altered coin. If it were a mint error, then you would not be seeing zinc color.

Note the unplated edge. That is where the coin was cut off. It this one was a mint error, it would be plated on that edge.
