So I found a 2017 d quarter that is almost identical to this one on this post or I found his after he put it back into circulation

That'd be great if some sort of feedback was sent back as this isn't or can't be coincidence. This quarter 2017 D mint is also missing over 80% of its clad surface. And this was found 2022!!

Welcome but I'm afraid you haven't found the answer for your coin or about the one in the original post at that link.

I'm going to suggest looking back over the replies to the original poster to see what was determined. (Damage from whatever environment it was in.)

Weight is extremely important for a coin missing a clad layer. Your coin has obvious signs of circulation damage (dings and nicks) which would preclude a determination of an annealing issue from the mint. So in other words, no it is not an annealing issue either.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

that this is just a stained coin/environmental toning. if the coin had lost its cladding cover, it would look much more coppery than black. plus you can see where some of the cladding is shining through the grime.
