Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but playing 2/4 stud or HORSE for that matter, the regular ante at a poker table is 50¢. My brother-in-law and sis-in-law were in AC over the week-end.

They asked me why there was some guy sitting at the table pocketing half of the 50¢ pieces he got in his roll, and why he was paying people $1 for specific ones.

He was having everyone read the years of what they had. I just shook my head in disgust at not going with them this time. They could have all been mine!

Wow! Not much of a gambler myself, but I might have to tag along with my friends next time just to investigate their money!

A better plan might be to just go to the cashier and ask for halves. They have boxes and boxes back there simply for this reason.

Imagine this : you go to the casino with your friends for the week-end. You all go to the cashier. They get $1K in chips to gamble. You get $1K in halves and go back to the room to search

The odds of winning will be in the roll searchers favor for sure

Yes, unless the house catches on.

I could see them charging a premium to both receive and redeem the half dollars, and making sure they only use 1971 and 1976 issues!

Being out here in Vegas there are tons of Halves at the casinos. Don't get your hopes up though, nearly all of them have been dinged so much they would not be good for much more than a beginning Halves collection.

Any certain dates to look out for if I am lucky enough to find any good condition ones?

Grab the silver one no matter what condition. :)

I would say a good poker player will beat the roll searcher unless the rake is really high.

SJUHawks-- I live in Philly, well technically, I'm from Philly, but for the past 3 years I've been living about 30 yards over the border in DE, land of bad pizza. :)

Anyhow, what AC casino were you in? I normally hit AC once or twice a year and mostly visit Trump & Caesars next door or Bellagio. Not too many table for 50cents at them.

PS. Go HAWKS!

bobbyjack, I normally go to the Taj or Borgata, and they both spread games that use 50¢ denominations. The Trop has pink chips, which are $2.50. That's the only place I've seen them. Many poker players keep a stack of halves for the dealer tip when they win a hand, though.
