Perhaps a couple of weeks late, but here are some resolutions for 2009 concerning my collection of US coins: 1. Preservation - Be sure that all coins are not stored in any holder that could contain PVC. I have already moved any loose coins in flips into Saf-flips or Capital hard snap cases. Also add another re-chargeable desiccant pack to the bank box. 2. Take Stock - Create an inventory of all my coins on a spreadsheet, by denomination, type, date and mint, with grade, cost and any other features of note. Along with the inventory, photograph all the albums, and single coins that I intend to keep. Put the inventory and pictures on a CD and also create a backup copy on my second hard drive. 3. Pare Down - sell all the duplicates replaced by upgrades and other coins I am not that interested in collecting on the Community or ebay, or bid board. 4. Acquisitions - continue slowly to acquire key date IHCs, Walkers, and 7070 gold types to complete those sets, but waiting for the market prices to fall and catch up with the recession before purchasing. 5. Generosity - continue to give all the children in my family coins on major holidays to encourage them to collect. Also to look for opportunities to encourage new collectors wherever I encounter them, including new posters on the Community. 6. Knowledge - continue a process of learning all that I can from a variety of sources, but especially from those on this forum. How about you? Have a great 2009!

I'm trying to do everything you listed, even #5. My two year old son likes to get into everything. He's very curious! I've let him walk out of the study room with a couple of Lincoln wheat cents that he can't wait to show Mom. Then, it becomes his teddy bear for the day and he insists on taking it everywhere with him. I think there must be one or two wheat cents tucked inside his car seat cover.
The only thing I'm adding to your #2 is cleaning with acetone where applicable. All of the coins I have cleaned so far have left a yucky residue floating on top of the fluid.

My 2009 plan is the same as the 2008 plan: finish the Lincoln Dansco Album! I do have one less coin on that list now. Yes, I bought one whole Lincoln Cent last year. I am slack! I will say that having a child made the year go by a lot faster! And I did assemble a 1908 date set for him.

Great post Okie!
I'll follow suit to most of yours as well. I do however have a few of my own.
1. Sell off all my extras and randoms to keep pluggin holes in my lincoln set.
2. Stay on budget of $100 a month unless I receive any sort of gift money ;)
3. Go to as many shows as I can and continue to learn and mingle with the older folk :D
4. Start a new set for my baby, havent determined what set just yet :D

Hey Cyclist, you are correct. Under Preservation I should have mentioned acetone. For me it is becoming routine for circulated silver coins.

Your #2 is what I have trying to get myself to do for the last 3 New years. That and lose 50 pounds.

1. try to keep myself focused. I tend to wander from coin to coin, with changing goals. 2. Collect more bullion silver. 3. Finish the following: SBA - just 1999s left; IKEs - just 1973 S Silver Proof left; JFK - have all the 1964-1970s, but the rest is a mess; Franklins - just started this, but as I am more into silver numismatics, I am more inclined to focuse on this more. 4. Get organized - because not being organized has caused me to buy duplicates. 5. Get rid of those darn duplicates and buy more. 6. Stay on budget (whatever that is!) 7. Buy just one gold coin to start a Dansco 7070 collection. Ooops, just violated number 1 and 6, but the 7070 may help me on number 5.

1) Stay current with what I have already started. 2) Get 2 Saint Gaudens 3) Eliminate accumulations and organize (21 1921 Morgans & 15 1885-O ) 4) Upgrade 1930-1958 Wheat Cents to BU 5) Begin Franklin halves6) Acquire 1 MS quality graded coin per quarter 7) Learn

Naturally those are all ideas from the younger individuals here. Being a rather elderly person I full well am aware of just how people stick to New Years Resolutions. With well over 100 Whitman Albums completed, many rolls of coins, 9 of those long boxes fof 2x2's and just piles of other coins, it's time to stop. I being of sound mind, on the other hand am a person of my word. And here is my New Years Resolution: I am going to stop collecting coins. ALL coins. Never again will I go to a coin store, coin show or a dealer at the flea markets. Coin collecting is over for me. And I've made that same resolution for well over 60 years now. But this time I mean it, maybe.

1. Stay focused on the coin series the I know and enjoy the most (IHC's & Barber dimes) 2. Research IHC varieties and purchase a few. 3. sell duplicates, error purchases and non-essential type coins. use money for IHC variety purchases. 4. Spend more time on the Coin Community Forum

A few of my 2009 goals: 1. Try to hit the 15000 nickel roll goal in my bank nickel roll survey (at 7500+ rolls now) 2. Find all of the major LMC Doubled Dies in bank rolls (last year found 1995 and 1984; still need 1972, 1969s (I know; fat chance on that one) and 1983. 3. Learn as much as I can from all here at the Community. I spend more time on this website than all other sites on the 'Net combined! 4. Make my Pillar status here at CCF (wait a minute, just made it with this post!)

Update on Resolutions (I am serious here): 1. Preservation - Done 2. Inventory - Partially Done All the albums have been listed in a spreadsheet, with a separate, detailed spreadsheet for the Dansco 7070. About half have been photographed. I still need to finish photograph all, and create a spreadsheet for my individual coins, like the Morgans, Peace dollars, commemoratives, etc. 3. Pare down - mostly done. I have sold on ebay most of my 7070 duplicate types as a result of upgrading. I also sold my six rolls of old Lincolns which will lighten the bank box. 4. Encourage new collectors - never will be finished. 5. Acquire knowledge - this will also never be finished in my life time. I imagine most of you could care less about my resolutions, but reporting progress here helps me keep moving.

Any chance while you're working so hard on yours you could finish up a few of mine for me? I don't ever seem to get to them.
