So I just received an 1881-S PCGS MS-65 Morgan that I purchased. The sellers photos don't show any of the toning that I am seeing on the coin. I am not sure if this is a doctored photo or if it is an old photo and the coin has toned inside the slab. Thoughts? Seller Photo My Photo

Maybe this could be relevant, but I haven't seen a PCGS slab (in me limited time collecting) that has these darker white lines on the insides of the edge of the holder. They are on each side of the holder, towards the middle, as you can see. Is that common?

I suspect the contrast was suppressed in the first photo. Regardless, it's still a nice coin

Any chance we could see a photo of the full slab, plus a shot of the coin's reverse?
The image's color could have been suppressed/subdued using whatever image processing software the seller had.

Here is a full slab and the reverse. I actually like this coin better with the toning it has, but I just want to double check with you guys everything is legit about this, since it didn't look as pictured. Thanks! Seller Full Slab

Well, I messaged the seller asking when the pictures were taken. They were taken in 2015 and the coin was not toned then.
Should I be concerned that the coin has toned inside the holder?

To a degree, you can and can't control how a coin tones. Without knowing what the coin was subject to before slabbing, it's difficult to say how quickly and to what degree it will tone. You can however control the environment it is in in your possession, proper storage may help slow the process.
Why a seller would use 7 year old images that do not accurately show the surfaces is beyond me, and something I would question. If you like the toning, then it's a win. I'm personally not a huge fan of the toning (prefer the reverse over the obverse) and I would bring it up to the seller. That's just me, and I'll probably be the minority here.

The slabs are not perfectly sealed so there's a good chance the nature will get in.

Where is the seller located? If he's from the southern Atlantic coast OR the Gulf coast it could be a coin that went through a tropical storm. Stored in a high moisture level and/or variable temperature for a while could cause that toning. If that's not its original look I'd ship it back for a refund.

I ended up getting a partial refund and keeping it. Got it for a steal at this price.

Still a nice coin, the toning looks fine with me. It's possible the coin has toned in the slab over time (which can happen depending on the environment the slab was stored in), but I also feel the contrast/color was likely manipulated in the seller's photos.

Looks better toned unless you wanted a blast-white coin. Yes, they do tone in the holders (I've got an 1883-O in a rattler that did a nice rainbow.)
