Hi, m8s! I am interested in your opinion about this coin. It has two big scratches. One on Liberty's face, one - on Liberty's pileus. Should I send it in for grading?

The pic exposure prevents assessment of surface originality, but the injuries on the obverse will detail it anyway.
AU Details.
Still a nice coin.

I'll say AU details (deeply scratched). Not a grading candidate - it will come back "details" and that's clear already.

What a shame, AU details damaged, scratched and cleaning hairlines on obverse.

Sorry , but I believe that's a counterfeit . The MM is in wrong place ; Should be more to the right side between the R and the D .

Surely there must have been more than one reverse die for this coin?

Interesting observation about the MM location. I have seen other examples of this date with the mm centered directly under the center tail feather. This one does appear to be off slightly to the left.

NOT counterfeit. The mint mark is exactly where it should be. After 1892 it was moved. This is NGC's MS67 example:

This is not the same MM position as on the OP's coin, clearly.

Quote: This is not the same MM position as on the OP's coin, clearly. OK, if you want to get technical, the relationship between the MM and the devices near it meandered a tiny bit through the year. According to NGC: "While the similar half dollar possessed plenty of room to fit a mintmark under the eagle's tail, the quarter dollar did not. In 1892 alone it was wedged into the tight space between the feathers and letter R of QUARTER, which led to displacement of the adjacent design features and occasional chipping of the die steel between these elements." That "displacement" accounts for the tiny variation you see. The following year, the mintmark moved here:

My first impression was "this coin is weird something's not right" after that the word potential counterfeit popped up. I'm with TOp I think its not genuine. Sorry and I hope I'm wrong. LIBERTY is just weird the lettering is off and ain't right.

Lousy-looking coin, genuine or not.
