Hey all,

While I don't see DDO's listed for the '59 D quarter, does the 'R' pictured below look like the doubled 'R' from other quarters from this decade (the right edge going down)? I'm not sure if the 'E' is PMD. I included a reverse pic of what I think are two die breaks.

Thank you

Very slight Machine Doubling. Your are looking at the wrong areas for a doubled die on your devices. Note the outside/inside edge will you find a doubled die. That is where you find Machine Doubling. On a doubled die, the devices will show spread in the centers of the devices. Also several will be affected, not just one device. Not a real doubled die. Sorry

Thanks for the replies and correction, John1. Coop (or anyone responding to Coop's reply), can you clarify two things for me? One is I saw a few varieties from the 50's like the 1958 DDO-001 which says doubling on the 'R'. Does that mean that its most pronounced on the 'R' and its on other characters as well? Also, I can barely see some of the doubling on 'In God We Trust' on older quarters listed on VV. What am I missing there? Thanks so much!

Well on the devices that follow the rim area, they will vary like on the quarters. A wide rounding spread will show a slight difference is spread. Depending on the class type and were the PUP is.

But Machine Doubling is affected more so. The push is often in a single direction, but also can be in a swing direction. Just depends on how loose the machine is.
