Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, and people with bird feet! Welcome to contest celebrating my 500th post! I counted and I think 5 of them were actually more substantial then just sarcastic ramblings or post-count builders, but regardless, a contest is certainly a fine way to celebrate! This contest is going to be run much like the "guess the price" contest with a few exceptions. Here is how I plan on running things.1. All of the coins will be coins that are in my collection, some I bought early when I was a bit more ignorant then I am now (ok, no jokes ) and it is obvious from the price I paid. Others, I feel like I got a pretty good deal on, so it should make things fun. This way everyone else can play every round.2. I would like to have a "Noob" category that will only be open to members that have between 50-150ish posts. If the new member feels they are experienced and that them being in the 'noob' category would be unfair to the more 'nubish' they can ask to be scored in the other category. 3. Only one guess per round, and the 5 closest guesses to the actual price will receive points: 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2 pts. 1 point will be awarded to each guessing player that doesn't place.4. After the final round (8 or 10 I haven't decided yet) a players 2 lowest rounds will be subtracted from their score. This is to help if someone misses a round, because I understand that sometimes life happens.5. The 50 posts required to play will be counted at the END of the contest, so if you are a Noob and don't have the required post count start asking questions. 6. Ties in the same round will add the points together and split them. ex. the price was $10, the two closest guesses were $9 and $11. The 10pts and 8pts will be added and split, each player therefor receiving 9 pts.I am sure I missed something so please ask if you have any questions. Prizes! Not-so-Noob category: Will depend on who wins, I will try to tailor it to your collecting interests if at all possible. I promise though it will be sweet. Noob category: This might very a bit depending on participation, but it will be a sweet selection of Type coins, and maybe some currency like a silver certificate or something. Nothing outrageous or anything, but something to hopefully spark your interest in another series or a 7070 set. I would like to begin the first round this weekend so lets ask those questions. Also, Mods willing, I would like to post a link to this in the main forum to hopefully get some more participation, and also to let people know when a new round has begun, because I know I often forget to check the contests page... I will respectfully decline this, not because we don't like you ( ), but because this forum does not lack for traffic or attention. People will keep track of anything that might offer them something for free. In addition, there's the floodgate we'd open by granting you this request. Fairness would dictate that we then clog the Main Forum with equal treatment for other contest offerings.

I should be in the noob category as outside my small field I know nothing about coins. But I will try to play with the big boys and girls....

Well said. I do not consider myself an expert in any field. Though in this game, it seems as the number of posts is what counts..

Clarification needed : Any level past Kindergarten/greenhorn is considered "Non-Noob" right ?
I too, am an "expert" in nothing, but consider myself to have a general average level of knowledge adequate for this hobby and learning more all of the time.

Ok, settle down everyone, the Noob category is for Noobs, hence the name. The only people that have a choice are people that would fall under the Noob category, so everyone else you will be in the other category automatically. Quote: addition, there's the floodgate we'd open by granting you this request... Yea, I thought of that after I typed it. Oh well so be it... The first round will start in an hour or so... Stay tuned!

For the first round we have a Philadelphia minted 1921 Walking Liberty half dollar. I picked this up at a live auction late last fall. The magic number will include the 5% hammer fee. I am sorry about the pics, my camera doesn't seem to want to take a better picture today... Work is going to keep me pretty busy this week, so I might not be able to post much after tomorrow... This round will conclude next weekend sometime, I will give at least 12 hours notice before ending the round. NOW LET THE GUESSING COMMENCE!!
