Hello all,

I was going through some coins that I found coin roll hunting, and this stood out among them, after close observation.

I've compared this to other 1943 Lincoln Cents that I own, and there is noticeable thickness, minor distortion, and notching on some of the letters.

I know this penny isn't in the best condition.

Getting straight to the pictures to show what I mean:

Obverse
1943-Lincoln-Cent---Thickness-And-Notching?

Reverse
1943-Lincoln-Cent---Thickness-And-Notching?

thickness on the letters "GOD"
1943-Lincoln-Cent---Thickness-And-Notching?

thickness on the "W" and a little bit on the "E"
1943-Lincoln-Cent---Thickness-And-Notching?

thickness on the top of the "T", a little bit on parts of the "R", and "U"
1943-Lincoln-Cent---Thickness-And-Notching?

More thickness top of the "T" a little bit on the "S"
1943-Lincoln-Cent---Thickness-And-Notching?

That's all for the pictures folks, thank you for stopping by, have a good rest of the day/week.

Just seeing minor MD and circulation flattening on the devices you showed. You should be looking at the word 'LIBERTY', the date, and Lincoln's eye for the doubling.

Dearborn, thanks for replying.

I totally forgot "circulation flattening" was a thing (only saw it mentioned a few times), which would explain why some parts are flatter and the shape isn't consistent.

The notches that I'm seeing could be attributed to the dings a coin normally gets during circulation, like on the 'O' and the 'D.'

However, what would the thickness be attributed to, like the 'W'? Deterioration/Ageing Die or something?

Just a normal steel cent coin. the 'WE' is MASTER die HUB DOUBLING doubling issue:
1943-Lincoln-Cent---Thickness-And-Notching?
So all the dies had this from 1909-1958 on the wheat cents. So they all had this, along with the bottom of the 'B' on Liberty. That is a game changer. Now, see if it continued on with the Memorial cents as well?

@coop Ahh, master die doubling, a new term for me!

I guess it makes sense, I didn't have a large enough sample of steel cents to compare with, in which I only have about 12 with various circulation wear.

I was typing in another response and was going to explain about the master die doubling then it hit me. This is a master hub issue. Meaning that all Wheat cents would have this issue. As the Master hub aged it got even worse in time. Also as the dies aged, it would get worse with time. So now, I have to check the Memorial cents to see if they continued with the same issue as well. Learn something new every day.
