To the CCF You asked what it was, how much, how could this happen. All the replies have said, not an error, sanded off, only worth a nickel. There are decades of experience telling you what it is. If you look at coins long enough, you can see anything you want to see in them. We know, everybody has done it before. Don't know what research you've done, but if it came to the conclusion that this is an error, they were wrong
My advice, Spend some time on this site and less time on the others. Even if we give you answers that you don't agree with, they will be correct. Welcome to the always learning hobby of error and variety collecting.

the eagle is paredolia, the blank area could be due to grease, but without sharper pics people will rightly assume it's damage because damage is more likely
