Post-strike damage is what I'm seeing--not an error. Can't detect any doubling given the obverse photo posted.

I would like to say since I've posted I have found out that there is an eagle on the back of my nickel also the pics don't do it justice I've compared it to 2 others that was on this sight ask of which are 2013 mine missing more than theirs and mine seems to be the only one with I eagle I believe it is a quarter stamped in it

It's common for people to think they have something they don't, then come here for advice - and then continue to search for something that isn't there. It is clearly a nickel. Not a quarter (and not struck with the wrong die). Compare it to any other nickel (and quarter) from that year and maybe you will spot thr subtle differences (like how yours is showing the FIVE CENTS denomination). Have fun and keep searching!

Looks like post mint damage to me . No added vale, no mint error. There is nothing in the mint process that could achieve this affect.

Ok folks I'm not trying to get rich off of a nickel (would be cool though) what I'm trying to do is get a little knowledge of what may or may not have happened. When I did a little research I found 2 other coins similar and it look to me that my coin may have been the first one in a series of ooopsies and each one made after got a lite closer to what it should have been. Given pics don't do it justice I tell you mine has the quarter eagle stamped in the blank spot off center. It's actually a very interesting g coin the face on the front is slightly double stamped with almost the whole Jefferson head. So if I never got a penny for it cause I won't spend it its an awesome conversation piece. LoL if I'd take it out and let people holD it

If you had sharper pictures most people here could give you a definite answer.

With all the scratches, I would have to say that the reverse was sanded down.

To the CCF You asked what it was, how much, how could this happen. All the replies have said, not an error, sanded off, only worth a nickel. There are decades of experience telling you what it is. If you look at coins long enough, you can see anything you want to see in them. We know, everybody has done it before. Don't know what research you've done, but if it came to the conclusion that this is an error, they were wrong My advice, Spend some time on this site and less time on the others. Even if we give you answers that you don't agree with, they will be correct. Welcome to the always learning hobby of error and variety collecting.

the eagle is paredolia, the blank area could be due to grease, but without sharper pics people will rightly assume it's damage because damage is more likely
