Picked this up the other day. It's obvious under a scope but could easily fool an average collector looking to fill a key date with a worn coin.

Thanks, not a collector of this series, but it probably would have fooled me.

Looks more like an unwanted growth than a MM!

Thanks for sharing!

An odd one to be sure, even if it weren't a counterfeit, in this state, what is it worth? $30? Doesn't seem worth the effort

That said, phew that's an ugly MM with some very unattractive darkness suggesting its addition. Interesting for sure

Thanks all! And silviosi, would it not be easier for me to send them to you and your lab rather than you coming here where there isn't an XRF? Well, maybe not entirely true, as I live maybe 5 miles from Penn State University, and pretty sure there are many of those somewhere on that campus. Something I should hunt down this spring before the school year ends and half the professors disappear.

Before the restriction's I was at least 3 time a year in Penn. One of my best friend and well know collector is 15 mile south of Penn state Campus. Hope the restriction will be remove and Penn will be my first trip. No I say if I come to see your coins, be sure I pay the trait.

PS I will ask to see if we do not have an handle XRF on the hardware from our stock. We use other models now. CCP could tell you which.
