American Numismatic Society - Join ANS Member Michael Markowitz for a merry numismatic tour through the works of William Shakespeare. From drachmas to ducats to sixpence, Shakespeare used coins as a device to relate to Elizabethan audiences. Markowitz will reference coins mentioned in the plays, tell us about when and why they were minted, and offer context for the modern audience.

Shakespeare was known as Willie Wobblesword in my high school drama classes.

Nice unclipped unbent hammered coins of this period can be expensive. Thus, provide the price is right, collectors can be tempted by coins with these problems, if they are not too severe, and the legends are not too affected.
This video shows some of the best. You need the best coins to illustrate the video.

When the penny was still silver and the country was strong.
