This IVDAEA CAPTA AE As of Vespasian came in an unattributed lot of coins I bought from an
ebay seller in the UK back in 2011. I have long wondered if it is authentic or not.
It's a rather low grade coin, worn enough where I can't tell a great deal about its style or the parts of the legends which remain.
The bust of Vepasian looks good and the coin has surface corrosion, which would weigh more, in my opinion, to having been buried for a long time rather than being a recent fake.
However, it was struck on a thin planchet and only weighs 6.98 grams. It is 26 mm. in diameter. There is nothing suspicious about the edges. They look good with no hint of a cast seam.
I'd appreciate opinions on it. Sorry it's not in the greatest condition.
